Surge control vessels are available in sizes from 2.5 to 10,000 gallons and are rated for pressures to 500 psi. Most hydraulic systems experience sudden changes in pressure and flow when the pumps start or stop, and when the valves shift to open or close. These pressure pulses and flow spikes are harmful to all parts of the hydraulic system – the components, the hoses and piping, and the physical framework and supports.

Pulsation and surge control vessels are designed to help eliminate these dangerous spikes and surges. Control vessels are commonly used in:

  • Airport refueling systems
  • Bulk loading facilities
  • Fire protection systems
  • Municipal water and sewage pumping systems
  • Petrochemical facilities
  • Cogeneration plants
  • Mobile fuel trucks
  • Diesel fuel loading stations

Young’s manufacturing facility provides accumulators, surge suppressors, surge tanks, and vibration dampeners which are approved, certified or accredited by:

  • Underwriters Laboratories (UL)
  • Factory Mutual (FM)
  • ASME pressure vessel code
  • National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors (NB)
  • Canadian Provinces
  • Lloyds Register of Shipping
  • U.S. Navy

The engineers and Certified Fluid Power Specialists at Quality Hydraulics will review your system’s requirements and help specify the appropriate surge vontrol vessel for your application.
